About The Artist
Lee Elliott, founder of Ryn Studios, is a Minnesota based ceramic artist. Her handbuilt sculptures explore the strange beauty and imaginative fantasies that nature provokes. Each piece, though not large in size, is made with black clay creating a three dimensional nature filled βportalβ that asks the viewer to lean in closer.
About The Work
Using black clay and organic inspired forms, my work explores the intangible fantasy of nature.
I ask my work to carry and do many things; I fill it with the weight of nostalgia, and the escapism of fantasy. I ask it to conjure memories of sun drenched summers, and be a resting place for memories not yet made.
Nothing can do all that.
But something about the black clay can. It soaks up everything. Its presence is demanding yet calm. It tucks away the things I ask of it into its shadows and reminds me of what matters most when it sits in the light.
The closer you look, the more you see.
